Elementary-Aged Children & Social Media
Conclusions
-
Social Media at an elementary-age can increase the probability of mental, emotional, and physical health impacts that can hinder development.
-
Children of elementary-age should not have a social media.
-
Parents should not allow their elementary-aged children on social media, but if you do monitor their activity closely.
Social media is a powerful weapon that has changed and altered our world around us. As individuals, we know the impacts that social media has on us and the effects it has on our health. If we as cannot handle knowing what others are doing and cannot put down our phone, imagine a child in the same situation. Social media has damaging impacts on children's health, which means that parents and individuals should wait to allow their kids to have social media. I decided to focus on this topic because social media has become more prominent for kids under 11. My project is relevant because it is an ongoing issue that needs to be recognized before it is normalized. Even if you don't have kids, this issue is still worth you knowing. Again, my purpose here is to not tell parents how to raise their children or individuals to randomly monitor the first elementary-aged child they see on social media. The purpose of this project is to have people understand that this is an issue that has damaging impacts on a child’s overall health and development if we are not careful.
